I hate pimples. How to get rid of them!

Waddup homies?

There isn’t any special makeup tutorial / recommendations that I can think of to show you, so I’ll give you a solution to a problem that I’m currently facing.

Yep, pimples.

Those little pesky pus-filled ball of ugliness are starting to invade my face, most probably because I’ve been emotional eating and feeling kind of stressed out lately, so they were aggravated and decided to show.

Not cool.

And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only sad soul out there that faces this so,

How to get rid of pimples.

{1} Do not touch the pimple.

It’ll only make it seem more obvious than it already is, and an infection might occur, along with scarring.

{2} Wash your face daily!

It is the most important step (well, one of the most) because using either a facial wash or cleanser can help remove the bacteria that has been on your face throughout the day, putting you at a lower risk of getting more pimples!

{3} Pimple cream.

Choose accordingly to your needs ;

Mandelic acid : Kills acne-causing bacteria.

Benzoyl Peroxide : Pimple.

Salicylic Acid : acne.

{4} Moisturizer.

The medicated cream you’re using, most probably doesn’t have moisturizing properties, so this is needed to hydrate the skin around the pimple that might be dry and flaky. It is best to use a fragrance free and for sensitive skin formula.

{5} Healthy living!

This is easier said than done, I mean, with our hectic lifestyles and busy schedules, ain’t nobody got time for that! But it is a good way to control the enemies from invasion.

Eat a balanced diet and don’t stress yourself out too much!

Having said that… I’m now off to study. Which most probably consists of stressing out and junk food.

But it has been a great “study break”, updating my blog and all! Oh how I miss this site.

Have a great week ahead lovelies!

Fall Nail Colors.

So… It’s gonna be fall really really soon, but it’s not too late to pick out a couple of nail polishes that suits the season! If you’re having some trouble picking out ones you like, here are some options you might want to consider!

{ Essie’s Fall Collection, Vested Interest }

This is a really unique color, it’s somewhere between grey and green mixed together. Nothing too harsh, it’s slightly pastel and has a very glossy finish.

20130914-233446.jpg

{ Lancôme, Vernis In Love ; Miss Coquelicot }

This is a pretty deep red color, but light at the same time. It reminds me of the colors of leaves during fall, how cute is it? It isn’t too red till it looks vampy, and neither too light to be summer, it’s great for fall, and personally I think it’s calming to look at!

20130915-112702.jpg

{ Yves Saint Laurent , La Laque Couture ; Beige Gallery

It’s between beige and grey, and I think it’ll look pretty elegant and classy for fall. It’s very neutral, but it’ll turn a few heads because of the high shine finish and the gorgeous color.

20130915-113516.jpg

{ Sephora by OPI ; On Stage }

This is a dark plum color, and with a grey undertone. I like how it’s also a calming and neutral color, it’ll look very good on almost everybody.

20130915-114746.jpg
( credits : babyisacrook.blogspot.com )

{ Dior Vernis ; Nirvana }

It’s a darker-than-average turquoise, and turquoise is my absolute weakness when it comes to colors! A mix of green and blue, you can get the best of both worlds. It’s very versatile and anyone can pull it off. It’s like something cool I’d find in the forest, and fall is about the leaves right? Well, that’s for me.

20130915-115547.jpg

{ Sally Hansen , Complete Salon Manicure ; So Much Fawn }

This is somewhere between the bark of a tree, raisin, and plum mixed together. It seems like something I would see while playing with the autumn leaves and this is perfect if you’re rushing to get out the door because no top coat is needed!

20130915-120826.jpg

{ Maybelline , Color Show ; Wined and Dined }

This is a very deep wine and almost almond-y shade. There’s a decent amount of glitter and shimmer, and it’s really classy. In some lighting, it may seem like there’s plum in the wine, and others, almond wine. This will provide a pop of color during the cool neutral atmosphere of fall. Gorgeous!

20130915-121829.jpg
(credits : grapefizz.blogspot.com )

{ CoverGirl ; Eternal Oceans }

This is a metallic navy blue color, and it’s super stunning. Eternal Oceans gives a nice contrast compared to all of the browns and reds and oranges around, all the autumn leaves color. It reminds me of a night sky I’d see in a fairytale, charming.

20130915-182746.jpg
(credits : Tes did it nails)

Chanel , Le Vernis ; Alchimie

A rustic green color with a metallic and shimmery feel, it also has a grey-ish brown undertone. This provides the perfect glimmer to fall, when it’s calming and you want to have something going on, on your nails!

20130915-192934.jpg
(credits : colormeloud.com )

{ Rimmel , 60 Second Nail ; Caramel Cupcake }

It’s a caramelly-taupe color that is almost nude. It looks very classy and professional, and suits fall because of its neutral tone. It’ll match your nude pumps perfectly!

So there’s my top 10 nail polishes for fall, and I hope you’ve enjoyed it! They’re just my own personal feelings and choices, so they might not fit the stereotyped colors that represents fall.

Also, I wont be posting as frequently from now till the 16th of October, because exams are just round the corner, peepin at me! But I’ll try my best to post something every couple of days, so do continue reading this site!

Katy Perry Inspired Makeup

In her latest music video, Roar, Katy Perry had a really natural and fresh makeup look which inspired me to do re-create it.

20130913-183823.jpg

Her makeup is youthful and gives off a healthy glow and is totally suitable for an everyday use. It’s versatile and would look great on everyone.

Foundation :

20130913-183951.jpg

As you can tell from the picture, her foundation leaves a satin to a light matte finish, so I recommend the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation which looks very natural on the skin, and doesn’t seem like you have caked up your face with foundation!

20130913-185359.jpg

It’s a little pricey and I couldn’t find a good drugstore foundation that leaves a satin finish, so an alternative method would be :
1) if you have a matte finish foundation, use some highlight on the nose bridge, apples of your cheeks and the middle of your forehead, where it reflects light the most.
2) if you use a dewy finish foundation, dust some loose powder on your face, avoiding the areas mentioned above that is used for highlight.

Concealer :

Her look is almost flawless, except for the teensy bit of dark circle under her eyes. So if you have zits or acne scars or something that you think needs coverup, get a concealer. The Revlon PhotoReady Concealer is a good choice because it can be layered for greater coverage and the stick form makes it easy for application.

20130913-192315.jpg

Moving on to the brows, hers are pretty full so it is necessary to complete this step if you’re lacking in the brow department.

20130913-192458.jpg

Her brows only has a slight arch, so be careful not to overdo it! Maybelline Define-A-Brow Eyebrow Pencil has a pretty thin pencil so it is easy to use because you can outline and fill in the brows without it being too obvious that it isn’t your real brows.

20130913-193208.jpg

Moving down a little, eyeshadow.

Her eyeshadow is very very neutral and it’s barely there. However if your lids are discolored due to allergies or something, you can use Mad Mineral’s Cream Shadow in Bare Necessity

20130913-194030.jpg

It is pretty much a dupe for the MAC Painterly Paint Pot at half the price of MAC.

20130913-194309.jpg

This hides any discoloration and brings it to a normal skin color which is very neutral. For some definition, you can use some eyeshadow on your crease. The crease and eyelid color on the left column of the Wet n Wild eyeshadow set would be a great color for the crease. Choose a color that suits your skin tone, nothing too dark because it has to look natural and subtle.

20130913-200951.jpg

It is pretty obvious that she has long lashes so mascara would be needed! Curl your lashes then apply about 2 coats of Maybelline Volum Express Cat Eyes Mascara and the lengthening effect of the mascara is more noticeable.

20130913-201700.jpg

This mascara lengthens the outer lashes more and is particularly useful for this look because there is a little cat eye action going on around Katy’s eyes.

NYX’s “The Curve” Liquid Liner is easier to re-create the subtle cat eye look that she has. The shape of the liner allows easier grip and better precision.

20130913-202226.jpg

If you want your eyes to appear as big as Katy’s, use a white eyeliner and line your waterline, it gives the illusion of bigger eyes.

We’re finally done with the eyes! Now on to the cheeks.

20130913-202400.jpg

You can tell that she’s pretty tan in this music video, so not much of a bronzer is needed. But for all the pale folks out there, Rimmel Natural Bronzer has the perfect shade of brown for a sun-kissed glow. It’s super natural and light too!

20130913-202921.jpg

Apply it to the hollows of your cheeks and be careful not to spread it too far towards the centre of the face, just keep it within the vertical temple line and the middle of your cheek.

Maybelline Fit Me! Blush in medium coral is the closest color I found that matches what Katy used.

20130913-205026.jpg

20130913-205109.jpg

Dust the blush over the apples of your cheeks, extending it to near the temples, but stopping once you reach the vertical end of your eyebrow. Try to blend the line in which the bronzer and blush meet, so there won’t be an awkward line in between the two.

Last but not least, lips!

20130913-205600.jpg

It’s a light peach color with a gloss finish, which is really great for younger kids starting out with makeup!

Revlon Super Lustrous lip gloss, Pango Peach this is the perfect match for what Katy’s wearing! It may be a little too glossy, but you can dab a little off with a Kleenex.

20130913-211845.jpg

Hoorah, now you’re done with the summer fresh and flirty look!

I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I had re-creating them, stay tuned to other posts coming up!

Maxi Skirts

Maxi skirts can be worn as a casual bottom and can be transformed into a classy and elegant attire that could be worn to a formal function or a dinner date!

For a casual outfit :

{ Maybe you’re just going shopping or a Sunday brunch }

If you want an illusion of a smaller waist, make sure your skirt is cinched around that area. This is particularly suitable for pear-shaped ladies.

For tops, cropped ones are a good choice. The cropped top can have prints, only if your skirt is plain, or else there will be too much going around your whole outfit and make it look fuzzy wuzzy. A plain shirt can work too, just tuck it into your skirt! It is not recommended to wear long-sleeves just because there’s too much cover-up. Tank tops or tops with spaghetti straps will work equally well!

If you think that the outfit is a little too plain, a braided belt or a thin leather belt can enhance the whole look.

For accessories, you can choose a “chunky” necklace, something that has big stones or beads. It will be a statement piece and adds some color and dimension to your outfit! However if you’re using either a skirt or top with prints, it’s best to steer clear from it. A small dainty necklace will do!

20130912-135453.jpg

Something like this ^ or

20130912-135522.jpg

This will go well with what you’re wearing.

Bohemian sandals and flats with some stones on them will look great, it’s chic and makes it seem simple, casual yet sophisticated.

20130912-135906.jpg

A tiny bit of heel could work, too much will make it seem formal already! I like to call them spartan sandals because they look like something Sparta would wear, haha!

20130912-140020.jpg

A cute little mini sling bag with buckles will go perfectly.

20130912-140247.jpg

Complete the look with a messy high bun or let it down with slight curls.

Marc Jacob’s Daisy smells wonderful for a casual scent. Loveeeeee it! Here -> http://www.marcjacobs.com/marc-jacobs/fragrance/daisy3.4oz/daisy-eau-de-toilette-3-4-oz?sort=

For a formal occasion :

Based on the outfit above, it is possible to wear that for a formal occasion, but of course some adjustments are needed! For starters, you can throw on a knitted cardigan ( not the oversized kind ) or even a leather jacket and it’ll make you look sexier.

20130912-192624.jpg

A leopard printed jacket can look as well, just make sure it’s not the faux / real fur type, just prints. Choose a kind that does not have the elastic cuffs, because it looks more for a casual wear.

20130912-192722.jpg

The accessories can be the same as what you have worn in the daytime, but maybe ditch the bag and opt for a clutch instead. Any kind of clutch will look good, just not those tiny little ones. Holographic clutches can be a suitable accompaniment too, if that is, your outfit is pretty neutral and nothing stands out as much or else it’ll be too much for the eyes.

20130912-193155.jpg

You can also slip on a couple of rings and perhaps, a bangle to make the look more complete. Chunky or dainty, your choice. But I prefer chunky because it just looks good.

20130912-193341.jpg

20130912-193430.jpg

20130912-193453.jpg

The gold colored leaf bracelet looks really classy.

Make sure you change your shoes!!! This might be pretty obvious, but maybe somehow you think it’s fine to wear it on a formal occasion. Well, it’s not.

For a more elegant and sexy look, opt for pumps. Velvet, animal skin (definitely not encouraging that) or plain, your choice. Pumps are really sultry and they elongate your legs, giving an illusion that your legs are pretty long under the maxi skirt. This is a good choice for ladies who don’t have an advantage in the height department.

20130912-193820.jpg

20130912-193844.jpg

Studs can give a more edgy and fierce look.

Keep your hairstyle simple. Let it down with some light curls at the end, or tie the sides back.

For makeup, get a smokey eye with some glitter on it, perhaps a glitter eyeliner and some long lashes together with either a nude or a berry pink lip color.

Lady Gaga’s Fame sounds like a good fragrance to choose. Here -> http://www.sephora.com/fame-P375516
Or even Katy Perry’s Killer Queen. Here -> http://www.sephora.com/killer-queen-P382214

You’re really to blow your guy away and turn a few heads, good luck!

9/11

9/11

Today marks the 12 year anniversary since the September 11 attacks.

A moment of silence for all who died during the attack and all the family and friends who have suffered.

Here’s a track by Yellowcard who wrote a song about it, take a listen. You might find yourself a favorite band, or really touched by the song.

Respect for those who tried to save the victims, they were all so brave.

Independence.

I cannot wait till I’m older, because I plan to study abroad.

There, I can get my own place / room and I can decorate it in any way I like.

Fairy lights around the whole room? Why not.

A CD player that has music on 24/7? I don’t mind.

Posters around my whole bedroom? Sure.

I just can’t wait till I’m old enough to move away from here and live by myself.

Maybe I’ll work in a little dainty coffee place or a bakery.

I won’t each much, but perhaps, I’ll be happy.

It’s just so interesting when I think of the future.

Do you ever think of that? What it might be like in the future,

what you’d want to  do when you’re older.

I want to move away and be independent, soon.

Drugstore Makeup Starter Kit

This is, as the title states, drugstore makeup starter kit! It’s for those who are starting to get into makeup, or those who want like a “basic” kit for makeup. Everything mentioned can be found in drugstores because when you’re first getting into makeup, you want to experiment with makeup and find out what suits you best.

It’s pretty pricey if you want to experiment with high end products! A warning, this might be addictive.

Because you’re starting to use makeup, you don’t need a collection this huge.

so much makeup

Maybe when you’re getting into makeup you can start collecting them slowly, but for now, just one item from each category will work!

{ FOUNDATION }

CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation with SPF 20.

CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous Foundation

This is an awesome product, honestly. It is longwearing because it is a primer itself and it is a concealer too, hence the 3-in-1. What’s more, there’s SPF in it, which can protect us from the sun and keep our skin youthful!
It’s only $7.83 on drugstore.com right now, and there’s 2 online coupons that can give you an extra $3 discount. S-T-E-A-L. I’m so getting one for myself!

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

This has great coverage, is lightweight and lasts almost the whole day. It’s also awesome how Revlon came out with 2 different formulas to suit users with different skin types. There’s a really wide range of colors available, and you’ll definitely find one that suits you. It’s $10.39 on drugstore.com at the moment!

L’Oreal Youth Code BB Cream with SPF 15

L'Oreal BB Cream

If you have pretty good skin with minimal areas that needs coverage, a BB cream would be suitable because it won’t feel as heavy on the skin and it’s really natural. There’s SPF in it, has moisturizing properties, evens out skin tone and corrects some areas too. It’s super convenient especially if you’re rushing out of the house. It’s much easier to blend too. It’s $16.49 for a pretty big tube on drugstore.com and there are 2 shades to choose from.

{ CONCEALER }

This is optional, but if you have severe acne scars or you want to cover up those dark circles, you could use with these products.

Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer Makeup

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

This is lightweight and is best used for undereyes. It doesn’t crease and blends easily, does its job well! There’s 6 shades available and is only $3.99! (Because there’s a 20% discount)

Maybelline DreamLumi Touch Highlighting Concealer

Maybelline DreamLumi

This is recommended to be used for undereyes because it highlights as well, and can totally freshen up your whole look and make you appear more awake.
It isn’t exactly the best thing to highlight the imperfections that you’re actually trying to conceal! It’s $6.39 on drugstore and there’s 6 shades to choose from!

CoverGirl and Olay Concealer Balm

CoverGirl and Olay Concealer

This is a great product and can actually be doubled as a foundation if you have really good skin and you don’t even need a BB cream to cover up anything but have just a few areas that could use concealing. You’re blessed.
It is a smooth glide stick, unlike e.l.f’s coverall stick which has a weird sticky consistency to it. It’s $6.39 and there’s a coupon that gives you an extra discount of $1! There are 6 shades available.

{ EYEBROW }

This is definitely not necessary at all, and you can skip this step if you want to, plus it takes some practice to fill in your brows and let it look natural. But if you’re confident and really hate your sparse brows, this is for you.

e.l.f studio eyebrow kit

e.l.f studio eyebrow kit

There’s a brow wax and brow powder in the kit, along with an angled brush and a sponge tip one for easy application. There are 3 shades available so that you can find one that suits the color of your brows. I always get very amused by how blondies have blonde brows and old people have white brows, it’s just so interesting! Anyways, digressing. The powder in the kit can be used to set the wax so it won’t slip and slide everywhere! It’s only $3.

Revlon Brow Fantasy Pencil and Gel

Revlon Brow Fantasy

This comes in a colored pencil and colored gel which can help fill the eyebrows further. The pencil can be used to fill the brows in and the gel would allow them to look more natural. There’s 4 shades available and is $5.91.

{ EYESHADOW }

When you’re just starting off with makeup, you don’t want to start off with bright colored products, just because you don’t have much experience with them and they might not turn out well on you.

Maybelline Color Tattoos

Maybelline Color Tattoo

You can’t really go wrong with this product because it’s really simple and easy to use. All you have to do is just apply it all over the lid and you’re good! It can also be used as an eyeshadow base if you want.
It’s $5.83 on drugstore and comes in a variety of colors. However, I recommend that you use a neutral color so it doesn’t make you look like you’re auditioning for the circus. (that is if you have no experience in makeup!)

Wet n Wild Color Icon Collection Eyeshadow Trio

Wet n Wild eyeshadow trio

This is great for beginners because there are word imprinted on the eyeshadows, telling you where to put that color. It’s only $2.99 and comes in many many different trios, so you can try them out! You might want to start off with the neutral colors first, before proceeding to smokey eyes or something, just because you don’t want to look like a panda!

{ EYELINER }

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of eyeliners because I’m asian, and they make my eyes seem more asian that it does without eyeliner. (I have double eyelids if you’re wondering) But I know some of you like statement eyes and want more definition around that area, so this is for you.

Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner

Maybelline Unstoppable Eyeliner

This glides on pretty smoothly and is suitable for sensitive eyes, and as well as contact lenses. The tip is thin enough so that it’d be easier for beginners to control and use.
Gel liners can sometimes be too much, so a pencil is recommended as the amount of product used is limited. This is $4.71 and comes in 5 shades, and brown is advised to those who are just starting with makeup, because it’s more subtle and easier to match instead of a jet black color.

Almay Amazing Lasting 16 hour Eye Pencil

Almay eyeliner

This too, has a very thin tip that would result in a thin eyeliner line, but it can be built up and is definitely better than putting too much and having to remove it. This is $6.09 and if you were considering to buy it with a friend, the next would be at 50% off and y’all can split the bill!

{ MASCARA }

I’m not totally sure with what effects ( lengthening or volumizing) that you like, so I picked the ones that are loved and raved about by so many people.

CoverGirl Lash Blast Clump Crusher Mascara

20130910-155749.jpg

This mascara lengthens your lashes a whole lot. I didn’t like it at first, but now I’m adapting to it, I pretty like how much length it adds to them and they don’t clump that much, except for some occasional globs of mascara gel that might get onto the lashes. Easily removed, don’t worry! Also, the wand is curved shape so it makes your lashes flare out more and it looks great. It’s $5.51 and 4 shades are available.

Maybelline Volum Express The Falsies Colossal Cat Eyes

20130910-160524.jpg

This mascara flares the outer lashes and gives you a little cat eye look which is cute. Also, it doesn’t clump that much and gives the eyelashes a nice lift and makes them pretty!
What’s more, the packaging has leopard prints on them, how sassy and adorable. It’s $6.22 and sadly, only one shade is available!

{ BLUSH }

It’s always nice to have a bit of a pop of color on the cheeks, it makes you look much more lively and cheery. However, too much can make you turn out looking like a demented doll that came out from a horror movie, not good.

Milani Baked Powder Blush

20130910-161412.jpg

The Milani baked powder blushes are really good, because it is subtle, but not till there’s no color and not super pigmented like the NYX ones which I feel is a little harder to blend. It comes with a mirror and a brush, so you don’t have to buy a blush brush just to use it.
Also, it’s pretty compact and you can put it in your purse and do a touch up whenever you want. It’s $6.37 and comes in 5 shades.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Blush and Highlighter

20130910-162009.jpg

2-in-1 product, anyone? It’s a highlighter and blush packed into one, and can give you more glow when used. The highlighting color can by used by itself to highlight, and the blush colors can be mixed to give a natural and healthy color on your cheeks! It’s $11.99 and there are 4 shades to choose from.

{ BRONZER }

For those fair-skinned and pale ladies out there who aren’t much of a sun-worshipper, a little bit of bronzer can go a long way. It’ll make you seem much more sporty, athletic and healthy. Don’t use too much though! It might pass off as though you have really bad pigmentation.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends Natural Radiance Bronzer

20130910-162600.jpg

This bronzer will give you a sun-kissed glow and is very easy to blend. It also has good pigmentation and won’t come off as cakey. And! It gives a hint of color, a hint, so it won’t be too much!

Maybelline Fit Me! Bronzer Pressed Powder

20130910-165632.jpg

The Maybelline Fit Me! Collection is a really good line and this has lightweight pigments with a smooth texture. It’s long lasting and natural at the same time, so it would be good for an everyday use without looking too orange. It comes in 3 shades and is only $4.40 right now.

{ LIPPIES }

My favorite part of makeup, the lips. They can change a whole look, from neutral to wild and from innocent to sexy. I can’t leave the house without anything on my lips, even if it is just a lip balm.
I love how my lips feel with something on, especially if it’s hydrating and moisturizing. So this is going to be an exception and I’ll recommend a few more products!

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter

20130910-170327.jpg

This is beautiful! It glides on really easily and is pretty sheer, so you don’t have to worry about looking “unnatural”. The color intensity can be built, but it’ll remain towards the sheer side, so, feel free to give your lips a few more coats!

Also, this smells ahh-ma-zingggg! It’s vanilla-y and smells like a cupcake. There’s not too much glitter in it, so you don’t worry about your lips looking like a disco ball! It’s only $5.99 and there’s a wide wide wide range of colors to choose from, so you can experiment with them to see what shade suits you best!

Maybelline Baby Lips, Cherry Me

20130910-174838.jpg

This is a tinted lip balm, but the pigmentation and color that it leaves on your lips doesn’t really seem like one! The color goes on pretty well and looks good. Not to mention the scent! I don’t mind eating a cherry chapstick, do you? Haha, just kidding.
Anyways, this is great for the younger girls because it isn’t anything too mature and it has SPF in it which can protect your lips from being dry and chapped! It’s $3.19 and there are other flavors if you’re not interested in cherry flavors.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

20130910-183703.jpg

This is a product that’s between a balm and a stain and I think it’s a really smart idea because stains tend to dry out the lips, and the balm in this product can help counteract the drying power of the stain and leave it hydrated while moisturizing at the same time.
Since it’s a stain, it’ll stay on the lips for a good amount of time and touch ups aren’t as needed! It’s $7.19 and there are many shades available!

L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Balm

20130910-184140.jpg

This is fabulous! It’s like a sheer lip gloss without too much glitter and a balm. When applied, it leaves this glossy sheen and that is just nice for “beginners” because it isn’t that reflective. The colors in this range are all pretty neutral and perfect for anyone. It keeps lips really hydrated and does not dry out, at all.
What’s more, it smells like cupcake! Something made out of those pre-mix boxes, a yellow cupcake. That’s what I call it. It’s only $7.95 and it is a steal for what you’re paying for. My holy grail lip product!!!

TIP : If you choose to use a lipstick, be sure to put on a lip balm before application so it’ll look better because it’ll glide on easily and the dried areas won’t show through as much under the lipstick!

{ TOOLS }

This, honestly, is optional. But if you’re slowly getting into makeup and want to find out what makeup tools that would be useful, you can stick around and read further!

e.l.f brush set

20130910-190407.jpg

This is really affordable and cheap, I mean 12 brushes for $12? Where can you find such a deal? I love how e.l.f comes up with a huge range of cosmetics that is super super affordable! And they have occasional discounts on their website, and that’s fab.
You can purchase this if you just want to get the hang of using makeup brushes. This isn’t the best brushes around, but for someone that’s starting out, it could be a lot of help.

e.l.f studio brushes

20130910-190919.jpg

The reason why I’m showing only one brush is because this is the multi-purpose brush. It can be used for foundations, tinted moisturizers, blush, bronzer and stuff like that. Of course, it isn’t very “professional” but you can still get away with it. Personally, I think the studio line has much better brushes because they’re much softer and soft is good, we don’t want the brushes to pierce every pore we have.

Real techniques brushes

20130911-000314.jpg

They come in several different sets, and from what I know, there are 3 colors ; purple,morange and pink! There’s a starter set ( above ) as well as a core collection,

20130911-000700.jpg

And a travel set

20130911-000951.jpg

They’re all priced at $17.99 (for the sets) and they look really stylish and sleek. I’ve never actually tried it before, but it has been highly raved by many youtubers around and fun fact ; it’s created by one of the youtubers! It’s said to be really soft and there’s no shedding.

eyelash curler

I think this is fairly important because they make your lashes lift more and together with the mascara, you’ll reach the expected effect of super long and volumized lashes, along with ones that are “curly”.

20130911-002402.jpg

* Please do note that you don’t need to buy every product mentioned, they’re just rough guidelines for those who are just starting out with makeup and are not too sure on what to get. If something else fits you better, by all means purchase that.

Also, no photo copyright intended! All items mentioned can be found on drugstore.com and the respective websites of the brands.

Olivia Wilde Inspired

Time for another celebrity-inspired makeup!

She has acted in Tron Legacy, House and In Time. Yup! Olivia Wilde.

She has a really nice figure that’s accompanied with a square jaw that accentuates her sexiness.

olivia wilde

Her look consists of high cheekbones and a strong eye makeup which makes her blue eyes stand out. The rest of the face would be neutral with a bit of a pinky flush on her cheeks which adds a slight feel of innocence amongst all the sexiness that’s going on.

{ FOUNDATION }

Her type of look is matte, so of course we need a foundation that gives a matte finish.

Drugstore : Revlon Colorstay

Revlon ColorStay

This foundation gives a matte surface (duh.) and also has SPF in it! So if you’re the lazy kind, this can be a 2-in-1 kind of product. This foundation also has 2 different types to suit people with different skin issues. Normal / dry or combo / oily. It’s only $10.99 and there’s a hugeeee variety of shades for you to choose from.

High end : NARS Sheer Matte Foundation

NARS Sheer Matte Foundation

This gives a sheer and matte finish and the coverage can also be built up. So if you’re the kind who wants a totally flawless finish, you can apply this over the areas that needs more coverage. One bottle is priced at $44 and there are 20 different shades to choose from.

{ CONCEALER }

Olivia has a flawless face so for those of us with imperfections that show through under the foundation, this is essential.

Drugstore : Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind

This can act as a concealer and highlighter as well, when used under the eyes, it can make them look “brighter” and more awake. Which in turns would focus on the eyes. This is specially formulated for undereyes, but it can also be used for unwanted spots. It’s $8.31 and comes in 6 shades. If you want something else because you’ve been blessed without eye bags, you can opt for the Dark Spot Corrector + Treatment.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind

It’s $7.99 and comes in 5 shades.

High end : NARS Creamy Concealer

NARS Creamy Concealer.

This is great at concealing! It’s crease-proof and has moisturizing properties, instead of drying the skin like some products do. $28 and has 10 shades. The wand makes everything more hygienic.

{ EYEBROWS}

Wilde has thin, but full brows and I know some of us are pretty unfortunate and have sparse brows, so this step is needed! But if you’re blessed with full brows, feel free to skip this!

Drugstore : Physicians Formula Brow Definer Automatic Brow Pencil

Physicians Formula Brow Pencil

We don’t really want a think brow pencil / brow wax because it’ll be more difficult to control and our brows might end up too thick. This is a perfect size and comes with a brush too! How convenient. $5.95 with 2 shades available!

High end : Anastasia Brow Wiz

Anastasia Brow Wiz

This has a really really thin pencil on one end, which allows us to define the brows easily. Be careful with the amount of force you apply on the product, or else it’ll break because it’s so thin! The spooly on one end allows you to comb throw the brows and makes us look more polished.

{ MASCARA }

A mascara that lengthens and volumizes well is essential, because the eye area is where we want emphasis on.

Drugstore : Maybelline Volum Express The Falsies mascara

Maybelline The Falsies

This adds volume, lengthens AND doesn’t clump! Clumping of lashes makes them appear unnatural and ugly, and as you can see from Olivia’s lashes, they’re flared out and separated beautifully, so this will work well! Waterproof or not, it’s your choice! Priced at only $5.99, I’d definitely say that this is a steal.

High end : Too Faced Lashgasm Mascara

too faced lashgasm mascara

This mascara has many bristles and with little “hooks” on them that can grab each lash and allows them to flare out to the best of their ability! The color is intense as well, which would attract people to look at them. *eye flirts* $21 only!

{ EYELINER }

This is another product that enhances the looks of the eyes and she has a teensy weensy bit of a winged eyeliner (cat eye) so a pen formula / felt tip would be easier to do that!

Drugstore : L’Oreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Eyeliner

L'Oreal Lineur Intense Eyeliner

This has a thin felt tip which would be easy (especially for beginners!) to use, and for a winged effect, this would do the job easily because it is easy to control and we all use pens right? This is just like a pen. It comes in 2 shades, and it’s only $9.49.

High end : Tarte multiplEYE Liquid Liner

Tarte Multipleye liquid liner

This has a really tiny felt tip and has the same properties as the drugstore version.

{ EYESHADOW }

Honestly, you can skip this step because the eyeliner and mascara has done the job of making the eyes the focus points, but if you feel insecure without eyeshadow, here are 2 options.

Drugstore : Maybelline Color Tattoo

Maybelline Color Tattoo

Only Bad to the Bronze or Tough as Taupe is recommended to achieve her look! Those 2 are the most neutral and allows the eyes to stand out more. If you use a color that stands out a lot, your eye area will seem as though there’s a party ongoing around there. A big party. It’s only $5.83 and is an “everyday usage” kind of thing, so it’s worth your money!

High end : Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette

Urban-Decay-Naked-Basics-Palette

Not much of a surprise huh? It’s raved about everywhere on YouTube and well, it is worth the hype because the colors are super neutral and versatile, great pigmentation too! It may be $27 and a little pricey, but totally worth it.

{ BLUSH }

A subtle blush is enough for her look because it only adds some “cheekiness” and not to pass off as super lively.

Drugstore : Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush

Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush

I chose a cream blush because it’s much easier to blend and a small amount would go a long way. Be careful not to overdo it though, or else you’ll end up like a joker. Not cool. Any color is fine, but steer clear from bright ones, a subtle and light color is much better! It’s $10.39 and comes in 3 colors!

High end : Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush

tarte-amazonian-clay-12-hour-blush_1

This blush gives a nice glow and there are many colors that are suitable for this look. I specially recommend the coral one, just because it’s so feminine and pretty! It’s $26 and comes in a range of 8 colors to choose from!

{ BRONZER }

To give that sun-kissed glow and an illusion (if you don’t have) of high cheek bones that Olivia has, bronzers can do well in contouring and making it seem like you’ve spent a fair amount of time under the sun!

Drugstore : Rimmel Natural Bronzer

Rimmel Natural Bronzer

This gives a warm glow and helps make you look naturally tanned. Apply it near the bottom of your cheekbones to make that area “sink in” and allow your cheekbones to stand out. It’s only $5.49 and comes in 2 shades to suit your skin tone!

High end : The Balm Bahama Mama Bronzer

the-balm-bahama-mama-bronzer

This is a matte bronzer and the product can be layered so that you can get your perfect look. Plus point, the packaging is really cute! It’s $19 on beauty.com

{ LIP PRODUCT }

Last but not least, lippies can help complete the whole look. For her kind though, a sheer lippy with minimal amounts of gloss and a natural pink is needed!

Drugstore : L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain

L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Stain

This is hydrating and is a mix between a gloss and a stain. Rose on and On and Pink Perseverance are the only 2 colors recommended because the rest are too bright and they stand out too much when applied. Pink Perseverance might be a little too pinky on some as well. It’s $9.99 and is available in 12 shades!

High end : Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Sheer Candy

Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Sheer Candy

This has been highly raved about by Estee and it is pretty sheer, suitable for the look we’re going for. It is light and gives great hydration too. It’s $32 on sephora.com and there are 12 shades available. I would recommend Tasty Raspberry (above), Dewy Papaya and Juicy Grapefruit as they’re slight pink and almost nude. The rest are a little too dark!

Olivia Wilde

Now, spritz on Daisy by Marc Jacobs because it’s a very feminine and pleasant scent.

Outfit : Floral dresses or maxi dresses will do well, along with flats. A pair of simple earrings or necklace will work too, don’t overdo on accessories though! A mini sling bag would look good.

Keep your hairdo simple, either let it down with a little bit of curls or tie it up into a simple ponytail.

I hope you have benefitted from this inspired look and there’ll be many more to come!

Disclaimer : I was not paid by any company to do this, it’s my own honest opinion and something I think would work. It’ll be pretty sweet to be paid LOL but hey, free advertising anyone? Plus these items have caught my eye so well done to the companies who made them!
Also! All the photos aren’t mine and no copyright was intended. Everything mentioned was found on drugstore.com as beauty.com unless stated.

Stay tuned for my next post!

HINT : It’ll be about beginner’s makeup.

Jennifer Carpenter Inspired Makeup

I was just lounging on the couch, and Dexter came on. I didn’t feel like moving to get the remote so I could change the channel, so I stayed on. This led me to Jennifer Carpenter, more known as Debra Morgan on Dexter.

She has a unique beauty. Some might think that her nose is a little odd, some might think that she’s ugly. (That came out on the google search! I think she’s gorgeous.) SO! I got really inspired to do her kind of look.

Image

She has a really sporty, athletic and fresh look. Something that can suit girls leaning towards the “Tom boy” side, that they can use it everyday. It exudes a youthful glow and makes it seem like a natural, pure beauty.

{ FOUNDATION }

A foundation with a dewy finish is needed, obviously, so here are 2 options!

Drugstore : Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation.

Image

It’s being sold on drugstore.com at $13.99 with 12 shades to choose from!

High end : NARS Sheer Glow

Image

Currently available on beauty.com , $44 with a wide selection of 20 shades to choose from.

Tip ; if you can’t find the shade right for you, it’d be a good idea to mix 2 shades together and get the perfect color.

If any of them don’t suit you, leave a comment below and I’ll tell you other options to choose from.

{HIGHLIGHTER} optional

In case you’re using a foundation that does not leave a dewy finish, and maybe a satin or matte finish, don”t fret! Highlighters will come to your rescue.

Drugstore : e.l.f studio baked highlighter

e.l.f studio baked highlighter

This is being sold on eyeslipsface.com at $3 per highlighter. Isn’t that a steal? There’s 3 shades to choose from.

High end : The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer

Mary-Lou Manizer

This a great highlighter! Really shimmery, but there isn’t too much glitter till it comes out chunky and pre-school like. It’s sold on beauty.com for $24. For the price you’re paying, I think it’s worth it.

{BRONZER}

for that sporty look, you don’t really need a blush because you’re under the sun a lot and you’ll get the sun-kissed glow. Bronzers somehow give off that tan look and contours your face well, and can be used for contouring. Cheekbones anyone?

Drugstore : Rimmel Sun Shimmer Shimmering Maxi Bronzer

Rimmel Bronzer

This has some highlight infused in the bronzer, which can add extra shimmer to your face. $6.79 at drugstore.com with other designs to choose from, why another get it?

High end : Jouer Mineral Powder Bronzer

Jouer Bronzer

This has been highly-raved by essiebutton, and I have not tried it before, but I trust her taste! When she used it, it wasn’t too light and neither was it too dark, it was enough to give a sun-kissed glow and contour the cheeks to make it look like you spent more time in the sun than you actually did! $28 at beauty.com with 2 shades available!

{LIP PRODUCTS}

For lips, it has to be something sheer and nothing too bright that might turn those lips into statement lips. The whole face is a neutral palette, so a slight tint on the lips can work.

Drugstore : L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Balm

L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Balm

This shade is in Rose Elixir, and honestly, after looking at all the colors, everything would work well except Caramel Comfort and Pink Satin. One’s too nude while the other is too pink. It’s only $7.95 on drugstore.com and it is my current holy grail lip product. Moisturizing while leaving a fairly glossy finish and providing a sheer color. Love in a tube!

High end : Dior Addict Lip Glow

Dior Addict Lip Glow

Another product that has been highly raved by Estée, and I must say, after seeing how it looks on the lips, it suits the look we’re going for, perfectly. Not too girly and it’s just awesome. $31 on sephora.com , it may be a little pricey, but for the packaging and product, there isn’t much to complain about.

{EYESHADOW}

Since everything is neutral, the eyeshadow color also has to be neutral. Light browns, taupe and bronze are recommended.

drugstore : CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 4 Kit Eyeshadows ; Pure Romance

CoverGirl Eye Enhancers

This provides the perfect color that’s needed to create her eyeshadow look. The middle two colors can be used as a base and the darker of the 2 can be the contour color. Highlight at the browbone can also be used! It’s $4.26 at drugstore.com

High end : NARS Duo Eyeshadow ; All About Eve

NARS Duo Eyeshadow

These 2 colors are one of the best to create the look she has. Neutral, not too shimmery either. Available on beauty.com at $34!

{EYEBROWS}

Because Jennifer has full eyebrows, it is essential to fill in ours (if they’re sparse) so they can frame the face as well as hers.

Drugstore : e.l.f eyebrow kit

e.l.f eyebrow kit

This has one side that is wax, and the other is a powder. The powder can be used to set the wax once you’re done and the kit also comes with an angled brush and a sponge tip brush for easily application. It’s only $3 and is available at either drugstore.com or eyeslipsface.com

High end : Anastasia Brow Powder Duo

image

This is almost the exact same color as the e.l.f one, but Anastasia Beverly Hills is known for their brow products, so I personally think that their brow powder will fit in perfectly with your brows, as if they’re real. $23 on beauty.com with 4 different shades!

{MASCARA}

Since the whole face is neutral, there is a slightly greater emphasis on the eyes and thus a mascara with great volumizing and lengthening properties is needed.

Drugstore : Revlon Grow Luscious Lash Potion

Revlon Grow Luscious Lash potion Mascara

This lengthens the lashes well and plus the packaging is so eccentric. A little outer-spacey with dreamy mixed together, neat! Only $7.99 on drugstore.com , what are you waiting for?

Hugh end : Benefit They’re Real Mascara

Benefit They're Real Mascara

With all the great reviews I’ve heard, this must be one hell of a mascara. I saw some “swatches” on google and my, my, this mascara volumizes and lengthens the lashes till they seem fake. not that it’s a bad thing, but there’s a huge difference when this is used and when it isn’t. Great to emphasize the eyes! $23 on sephora.com a HUGE steal for the product that you’re buying!

last but not least… {EYELINER}

To add extra mystery and a more sexy and sultry look, opt for an eyeliner that can define the eyes, and create a smokey effect as well.

Drugstore : Physicians Formula Mineral Eyeliner Pencil

Physicians Formula Mineral Eyeliner Pencil

Eyeliner on one end, smudger on the other. You can first define the eye and straw a thick strong line along the area near the lashes and use the smudger to blend out everything and create a soft smokey effect before defining the eyes again, if needed. It’s $6.99 on drugstore.com and there’s 2 shades available!

High end : LORAC Eyeliner Pencil

LORAC Eyeliner Pencil

this is almost the same thing as the Physicians Formula one, just that it isn’t really a pencil pencil that you sharpen, but an eyeliner that’s shaped in a pencil. Get my point? It’s creamier and will glide on a tad easier compared to the drugstore version. $18 at beauty.com with 2 shades available!

Now, throw on a blazer or a plaid button up shirt, accompanied with a simple hairdo, you’re good to go!

Jennifer Carpenter

Also, don’t forget to spritz on some perfume, nothing too girls though!

I hoped you benefitted from this post and stay tuned for another inspired look that will be posted really soon! (Hint : she acted in Tron Legacy!)

Who else has the same problem of always being late?

Almost all the time, I’m at LEAST 5 minutes late, the longest ever was about 2 hours, if I’m not wrong. Yeah, it’s horrible to be my friend. If I’m early, I’m either attending a concert, or you mean a lot to me.

I hate it when my mum forces me to study, what’s the point when I’m not interested? It’ll make it so much more difficult for me to enjoy studying and doing work for that subject. These are the moments when I’ll get all upset and stressed up, I’ll end up munching and munching and munching and without fail, I’d put on weight during the exam periods.

I feel as though there’s no way for me to control, unless you give me a huge lot  of juice. Fruit juice. I love love love berry juices, they’re so refreshing and thirst-quenching, while being sweet and sour at the same time. I finished a litre in 2 days, I have an issue, I’m aware of that.

I’ve thought of making this my public diary, and anyone who feels the same way as me can relate, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to do so yet.

Anyways, here’s another untitled post. Perhaps I should post all the untitled ones under a special category.

Oh well, peace out and have a great weekend!

P.S  It has been exactly a month since Z got deployed. I miss him so bad.
