Day to Night makeup.

Since not all of us have the luxury of time, here are some tips to how you can transform your daytime look to night!

– Try to get natural lighting as that’s the best and fluorescent lightings tend to alter the real color on your face and might cause some mistakes here and there.

-Use some eyedrops if your eye is red (especially from sitting in front of the computer) , it’ll reduce redness and make you look fresh!

– Use a brightening concealer, such as the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat to minimize the appearance of wrinkles. Apply it between the brows to highlight and your forehead and apply it on dark circles to make you appear more awake.

– You don’t need to have another layer of foundation, a concealer will work good for imperfections and visible veins.

nyx concealer

– Freshen your face by spraying a water spray (such as Evian Mineral Water Spray) and wait for it to dry before applying a light thin layer of loose powder. Doing away without the spray will make you appear cakey.

– Use a darker and more intense colored lipstick for the night. Dark reds and plums will look great! If you’re not comfortable with the intensity, apply a layer, pat your lips with tissue.

– Add some shimmer to your eyelids and blend it till it’s sheer. Shimmer on the browbone and the centre of the lips over lipstick will look good as well.

Essence-Shimmer-Powder

– Line your eyes with a dark eyeliner and apply a thin layer of eyeshadow on it so it can last through the night.

Pucker up!

Alright ladies! Today’s back to basics post would be about your lips!

Aren’t those some dreamy lips?

How to make your lipstick last longer :

Use a lip liner! Yes, surprisingly, since I’m not a big fan of them. They act a little like a lip primer, or glue, as the lipstick will adhere to the liner.

What you should do is to use short, light feathery strokes to outline your lips then fill them in. If you don’t fill them in, and the lipstick gets “eaten” off, it’ll leave that distinct line which isn’t very pretty. Fill the lips in like how you’d color a picture in a coloring book!

For bigger lips – draw inside the natural lip line, just right inside! Leaving a gap makes you seem a little foolish.

For smaller lips – draw right on the outer edge of your lip line!

NYX does some pretty great lip liners, along with MAC.

When shopping for a lip liner, choose a color that’s closest to your natural lip color. Tip : the pads of your fingertips is the part that has the closest color to your lips! But since there are so many shades available, go for what you like!

Go natural!

Honestly, lipsticks made out of more natural ingredients are always the best because we’re always eating them. Licking our lips and stuff like that, we’re ingesting our own lipsticks and it isn’t ideal for it to be made out of a mixture of chemicals.

Origins, Aveda, Jurlique and Dr. Jart are some brands that use natural ingredients (majority) for their lipsticks and other cosmetic products.

However, the shade choices for the natural lipsticks are much lesser as there are fewer natural pigments.

Plumpin’ action

Add a little bit of shimmer lipstick / lip gloss to the centre of your bottom lip and smack yo ISP together! This creates an illusion of plumpness as more light will reflect. Use a white pencil (or silver, or gold) to the cupid’s bow to let your upper lip stand out more.

Red lipstick:

There is a red lipstick for everyone! Maybe you want to look like Taylor Swift, or stand out in the crowd, here are some tips.

20131114-183225.jpg

Warmer complexions go well with reds that have yellow or orange in them and fair skins look better in blue reds.

To avoid red teeth (where the lipstick smudges onto the lips), do a duck face and stick your index finger in your mouth and pull it out. This will remove any excess that could’ve ended up on your teeth!

Fruity colors make the teeth seem whiter and brighter (eg watermelon, berry) whereas colors that are brown based and too bright of an orange would make the teeth seem yellow, ugly!

Alright, that wraps up the lips edition of the back-to-basics series. Hope you’ve enjoyed this post and stay tuned for more!

Makeup haul {Part 1}

Yippiez, it’s time for a haul post! Well I think it’s more of a haul and review kind of post. I’ve been having a horrible week and when they items arrived, it was just pure joy. I was squealing away when I opened the boxes, haha!

20130831-123833.jpg
Isn’t that just pure joy?

{1} Maybelline Vivid Lipstick in Pink Me Up

20130831-124926.jpg
This is a baby! It’s a pretty mauvey pink color, and glides on really easily! But when it’s applied, it’s a deep coral-y pink. Plus point? It smells like boxed cake. ya know, those pre-mix kinds? Especially the yellow cake ones. The packaging is sleek and cute, with a deep purple cap. However there was a problem on the product, it got scratched on something and there’s an ugly protrusion, but maybelline’s still rockin!

{2} Eos lipbalm ; blueberry acai and watermelon.

20130831-130810.jpg
This smells amazing! Full on watermelon and blueberry, and they smell so yummy, I could almost eat them. almost. managed to get the watermelon flavored one in a “limited edition” eos pack! $10.99 for 4.

{3} E.L.F matte lip color in natural.

20130901-004744.jpg
The color shown on the packaging was totally (well, almost.) different from the real deal. I like matte lip products just because it seems a little more natural without all the glossy look, but this made my lips seem super chapped. Maybe they are, but the matte-ness enhanced the chappiness, and it totally washed out my lips and was not flattering on me at all. It may seem nice when swatched on hand, but it’s pretty awful on my lips. PLUS! The product wasn’t in good condition, the whole lip color almost fell out from the tube. Definitely not re-purchasing this, well, maybe in other colors.

{4} E.L.F HD blush in headliner

20130901-005417.jpg
This bottle seems much smaller in real life! I expected it to be bigger, but then, who would need a huge bottle of liquid blush? Hahaha. I really like the color, just a little darker shade of baby pink!

20130901-005604.jpg
However I really have to work on my liquid blush application skills, I tried rubbing the product in between my fingers and patted on the apple of my cheeks and blended it out. I ended up looking like the Joker’s daughter.

20130901-005843.jpg
It’s pretty awesome how it has a pump, really hygienic! And, be sure to shake it well before using, so that you won’t get a lot of white water and a little pink liquid when you pump it.

{5} E.L.F lip stain in nude nectar

20130901-010206.jpg
I guess the shade really lives up to its name, nude nectar, because it is really NUDE when applied. There is no difference in the color of my lips when I use it. Nothing at all.

20130901-010415.jpg
It comes in a felt tip marker, and it makes me feel as though I’m a child trying to imitate my mum putting on makeup, just that I’m using my markers, haha! I shall check out the other colors and see how it works for me.

{6} CoverGirl lip color in delight.

20130901-010739.jpg
This is fab. First off, the packaging. It has this metallic mauve purple cover, with the color of the lipstick at the bottom. Makes it look really posh, expensive and high quality. Which are all true because I love CoverGirl. Next, the color. It’s pretty sheer, but you can see the color and there’s a pretty gloss finish that isn’t too much, but cute at the same time. Third, its smell. It smells somewhere between a hospital, vanilla and an average lipstick. Luckily, the vanilla overrides the other 2 smells, so I’m pretty alright with it! However, the cap has to be secured properly, I thought I had capped it but apparently not and I almost dropped it.

20130901-011334.jpg
Isn’t the color so pretty? I could use it all day.

Here are some swatches!

20130901-151707.jpg

As you can most probably tell I’m mad over lip products. I didn’t even know I bought some of them till I saw it in the box! Anyways. I’ll stop here for now because it might get a little long and boring.

Stay tuned for my next post! It’ll be coming up real soon.

Wishlist (2) {lip products}

Before I begin, follow me on Instagram! Yes I have a newly created account and it’s @snickeriggles. Help me get the word out about my blog out. Thank you lovelies!

20130818-000648.jpg

with all the lip products I am looking for, I can safely say that I am mad.

20130818-001116.jpg
A set of all tints, how adorable! Benefit Cosmetics has to be one of my favorite “high-end” makeup. Their packaging and the name of their products has already won me over by 80%. Then with the stuff they came out? 100% sold.

20130818-001814.jpg
I’ve never actually heard of this product, but heard of “Buxom” from essiebutton. Seems pretty cool for a lip stain. A little like the Revlon kissable balm stain, I must say.

20130818-002001.jpg
THIS. I have heard it from essiebutton (my favorite-est beauty vlogger ever.) and it looked so good! I will get it one day. It’s so sheer and cute and elegant at the same time.

20130818-002827.jpg
I have never heard of this, but it looks so quirky (in a good way of course) the pink is a really nice opague one and looks so smooth. Looks like liquid cotton candy.

20130818-003135.jpg
Soap and Glory! Their packaging is comparable to Benefit’s, just more provocative. It’s so girly and sexy and cheeky! I wish I had their body product set or something, seen it quite a few times but never actually gotten it.

20130818-003453.jpg
I always thought Stila were mainly eyeshadows, but it’s a pleasant surprise to find this. With tint, and balm, I was really interested.

20130818-003806.jpg
Kat Von D lipstick! I never ever knew she had a makeup line, and I’m absolutely interested in it right now. The colors are really dark / neutral / red, perfect for statement lips or to enhance the eye makeup. Plus the packaging is really sleek and classy, while infusing the rock edge.

20130818-004051.jpg
Yves Saint Laurent again! And I heard it from Estée, again. I love how sheer the swatch I saw on her video was, I’m not a fan of “thick” lipsticks. Plus the packaging is really really classy.

20130818-004441.jpg
I know this isn’t a lip product, but I had to add it in since I saw it in Estée’s get ready with me video and wazowska , the coverage was amazing and gave a really natural finish. It was just so awesome, I can’t even describe it.

So hey, if you ever thought about what to get for me, you have a rough idea. Haha!
